Chelsea green

Artist Introduction

Atlanta based fine artist Chelsea Green crafts large-scale oil paintings that explore the human psyche. Green’s work elicits a unique and visceral response, inviting viewers to confront their own emotions and memories. The juxtaposition of surreal elements with moments of realism creates a dynamic tension, mirroring the delicate balance of the human condition. Finding solace in the space where isolation meets connections, her dreamlike atmospheres explore themes of anxiety, claustrophobia, and space. Green’s work has an evolving narrative that reflects her own lived experience.

Chelsea is currently studying painting and art history at Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia.

Artist Statement

My work has evolved from exploring the liminal spaces of the mind to a profound confrontation with the aftermath of sexual assault. The haunting emptiness of these mental spaces became a sanctuary, a refuge from myself and others. This series serves as a raw and unflinching examination of the lasting impact of assault, and how the echoes of such experiences persistently influence perception and selfhood years later in fragments of past experiences mingling with the present moment, blurring the lines between reality and imagination. Each painting serves as a visual language to the enduring struggle of maintaining performative normalcy in the aftermath of trauma, a poignant reflection of my personal journey.

This body of work includes pieces made from the beginning of 2023 until the present. If you’re interested in older work, please contact me.
